NNECOS Awards


Annual award presented by the Northern New England Clinical Oncology Society to recognize achievement by allied health professionals in Northern New England

Eligibility:

  • Allied health professional (non-physician care team members) working in the oncology environment in Maine, New Hampshire, or Vermont
  • The award will recognize a project, initiative, or other contribution to oncology above and beyond a person’s normal job responsibilities and in alignment with the NNECOS mission to promote the highest quality care for patients with cancer and blood disorders in our region.

Criteria:

  • Originality: The project or initiative should demonstrate creativity or a novel approach that goes beyond the nominee’s usual job responsibilities and addresses an unmet need in oncology.
  • Impact on the Field/Oncology Community: The contribution should provide meaningful, measurable, or lasting benefit to patients, care teams, or the broader oncology community in Northern New England.
  • Team Accomplishments: Nominations should highlight how the nominee supported collaboration, strengthened teamwork, or advanced shared goals within the oncology care community.

Nomination Process:

  • Nominations are due annually by January 31st – self-nominations accepted
  • Incomplete nominations will not be considered

Award:

  • The recipient will be recognized and project to be showcased at the NNECOS Spring Meeting and in NNECOS publications, as deemed appropriate
  • The recipient will receive an invitation to the NNECOS Spring Meeting award presentation

Review Process:

  • Recommended by the NAHPAC and approved by the Board of Directors.

The Northern New England Clinical Oncology Society (NNECOS) Medical Student Award recognizes medical students at medical schools in Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont ( Tufts Maine Track; Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth; Larner College of Medicine at UVM) who have demonstrated commitment to caring for cancer patients and/or advancing the field of oncology through teaching, research or advocacy. One or more awards will be given annually to graduating medical students who are leaders in patient care, student mentorship, and/or research.

Nominee Solicitation: Student interest group advisors will solicit faculty nominations for graduating medical students.

Nominations: Candidates shall be nominated by faculty at their institution, through submission of a short nominating letter to info@nnecos.org by the stated deadline (March 31st).

Selection Process: Members of NNECOS leadership at the nominating institution, in conjunction with the NNECOS Fellows and Trainees Task Force, will review applications and make recommendations to the NNECOS Board of Directors for final award approval. Selections will be made in alignment with the NNECOS mission.

Recognition: Recipients will be recognized at their medical school awards ceremony, where they will be presented with a framed certificate and monetary stipend, the sum of which may be vary depending upon the number of awardees.

The Northern New England Clinical Oncology Society (NNECOS) Rising Star Award recognizes medical, nursing or allied health students in Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine who have demonstrated commitment to caring for cancer patients and/or advancing the field of oncology through teaching, research or advocacy. Awards will be given annually to medical, nursing or allied health students who are emerging leaders in clinical cancer care, research or student mentorship.

Nominee Solicitation: Student interest group faculty advisors will solicit faculty nominations for students at their respective institutions.

Nominations: Candidates shall be nominated by faculty at their institution, or by a NNECOS member, through submission of a nominating letter (no more than 250 words) to info@nnecos.org, by the stated deadline (March 31st).

Selection Process: Members of NNECOS leadership at the nominating institution, in conjunction with the NNECOS Fellows and Trainees Task Force, will review applications and make recommendations to the NNECOS Board of Directors for final award approval. Selections will be made in alignment with the NNECOS mission. We anticipate at least one student awardee from each participating institution.

Recognition: Recipients will be recognized at their school’s awards ceremony* where they will be presented with a framed certificate and monetary stipend, the sum of which may be vary depending upon the number of awardees.

*If an awards ceremony is not available, awardees will be recognized at the NNECOS Spring or Annual Meeting.
