Christopher J. Anker, MD

Radiation Oncology- From Simulation to Treatment

Christopher J. Anker, MD is an associate professor of radiation oncology at the University of Vermont Cancer Center (UVMCC), where he serves as Associate Director for the gastrointestinal cancer team. Nationally, he is on the NRG Oncology Gastrointestinal Committee, through which he helps bring the most promising clinical trials to patients in the UVM network. He enjoys teaching, and received the Association of Residents in Radiation Oncology Educator of the Year Award in 2013. He has authored numerous book chapters and peer-reviewed publications, and has received awards recognizing him as an outstanding peer reviewer for radiation oncology’s most respected journals. His research interests in personalized and precision medicine are supported by several research grants, and in 2018 he received the UVM Medical Group Junior Researcher of the Year award. He is currently involved in writing expert guidelines manuscripts as part of the GI American Radium Society Appropriate Use Committee, and he is serving on the taskforce to write practice guidelines for rectal cancer for radiation oncology’s main national organization, the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO). To recognize his dedication to patient and family centered care, this year he was recognized as one of the “Faces” of the University of Vermont.

Holistic Care of Patients: The Many Facets of Caring for and Co-Managing Patients with Rectal Cancer

Kacie is a registered dietitian and a certified specialist in oncology nutrition. She works directly with other members of the patient care team supporting patients and care givers in managing symptoms and side effects throughout treatment and in survivorship.

Karen graduated from UVM with a BSN in nursing in 1994, and has spent last 7 years in radiation oncology at UVM medical center specializing in GI, head/neck and GYN. Prior to that, she worked in med/onc/acu at Copley Hospital for 15 years. Karen has just completed 7 years on the Northern Vermont Oncology Nursing Society board, serving as Treasurer and President.  



 

Andrew Chongaway, BS & Alyssa Deardorff, BS

A Guided Web-Based Yoga Series for Pediatric Cancer Survivors

Andrew is a Doctor of Physical Therapy student at the University of New England. Along with Alyssa Deardorff, he was a NNECOS Student Led Grant Recipient for this project and a poster presenter at the 2018 NNECOS Annual Meeting.

Alyssais a Doctor of Physical Therapy student at the University of New England. Along with Andrew Chongaway, she was a NNECOS Student Led Grant Recipient for this project. Alyssa is the Vice President of the University of New England Oncology Club.

Mary Kate Visnic, RN

Neutropenic Diet: Standardizing the Practice Using Evidence-Based Practice

Mary Kate is a Registered Nurse in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at Boston Medical Center, with an interest in nursing research. She participated in a 10 week research internship at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in which I worked with Christina Martin, APRN on “Neutropenic Diet: Standardizing the Practice Using Evidence- Based Practice Methods.”


 
Paul S. Unger, MD

Oncology 2019 Update

Dr. Unger received a Bachelor of Arts from Wesleyan University, Middletown, Connecticut in 1981 and his Medical Degree from Harvard Medical School in 1986. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine in 1988 at New York Hospital, Cornell Medical Center. In 1992 he completed his fellowship in Medical Oncology at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, Massachusetts. One year of this fellowship was devoted to bone marrow transplant study.

Dr. Unger became a member of the American Board of Internal Medicine in 1989, was board certified in Medical Oncology in 1991 and board certified in Hematology in 1992. He spent two years on staff at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center before joining CVHO in 1994. He currently holds a position as Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Vermont.

Dr. Unger is the current president of the Northern New England Clinical Oncology Society and is on the medical staff at the University of Vermont Medical Center, Porter Hospital and Northwestern Medical Center.


Sheila B. Noone, PhD, MPH, RN
Clinical Research Nursing: A Critical Resource for Impactful Human Research
Dartmouth College

Sheila is Executive Director, SYNERGY: Dartmouth Clinical and Translational Science Institute. In this role, she provides executive leadership for optimal implementation and strategic direction of Dartmouth's newly created Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI), leveraging scientific, clinical nursing, research and administrative knowledge and skills to achieve institutional and CTSI goals. Sheila also leads the clinical and non-clinical administrative operations to develop a responsive translational research environment.

Josie is an award-winning stand up, storyteller, and breast cancer-survivor who created a one-woman show, "So This Happened". Josie's motto for teaching is, "You can a crappy day or a funny day. It's the same day." I teach people to have a funny day.
