Time is Running Out: Contact Congress to Support Cancer Care!

17 Nov 2011 12:47 PM | Lori Aubrey (Administrator)

The November 23 deadline for the “Super Committee” to present its plan is fast-approaching, and the next few days will be critical as they attempt to finalize a proposal to save $1.5 trillion over the next ten years.  At this point it is unclear what, if any, plan the Super Committee will present to Congress, but it is considering action on the sustainable growth rate (SGR) and cuts to Average Sales Price (ASP), and your immediate efforts are necessary to prevent cuts to cancer care.

ASCO staff and volunteers have been working diligently on these issues, and many ASCO members have already reached out to their Members of Congress. As the deadline approaches, it will be imperative to continue this outreach. Please take a minute right now to  call you Legislators. Ask them to tell the Super Committee to oppose any cuts to the ASP and to include SGR reform in any final package.

We anticipate that any plan will start to be released by the Super Committee by Monday, so it will be critical to make the call in the next 48 hours. If you don’t have time to call, please send an email. Congress needs to hear from you about these issues!
